The vocals for this song were recorded about 6 hours after finding out that my father's death from leukemia was imminent. About six hours after they were recorded, he died in his sleep. His leukemia was possibly caused by the contaminated water at Camp Lejeune when he was in the US Marines. If the military isn't using soldiers as cannon fodder to prop up the global capitalist system (especially the oil companies), it's killing its own people through blatant disregard for their health. When your own country's military sends you off to die in a faraway land for highly dubious reasons, or kills you itself through complete indifference to basic safety, who is the real enemy?

The picture is an actual US military postcard taken at the actual location during the time period when the water poisoning happened and, in such a large group of people, likely includes victims of the pollution-induced deaths. Beneath all of the military pageantry, there is always the dark side: the fact that everyone is expendable.
